Santo Domingo. – Estudiantes del colegio Saint Joseph School visitaron la planta de Valdesia, en San Cristóbal, invitados por la Corporación del Acueducto y Alcantarillado de Santo Domingo (CAASD), donde observaron el proceso de potabilización del agua que se sirve en el Gran Santo Domingo.
Los estudiantes del quinto de básica acudieron al lugar guiados por el técnico y educador de la CAASD, Fernando Tejeda, y recibidos por el encargado de División del Sistema Valdesia, ingeniero Víctor Valdez, quien los acompañó en un recorrido de 30 minutos por toda la planta.
Valdez expresó que estas visitas son muy importantes, porque crean un efecto multiplicador a través de estos adolescentes sobre cómo se obtiene el agua en los embalses y cómo es el proceso de su potabilización hasta su distribución, usos y saneamiento.
“Estas visitas son de mucho interés para nosotros, porque desde aquí ellos son testigos de los pasos que conlleva el tratamiento de nuestras aguas y las técnicas de limpieza empleadas para librarlas de las impurezas”, explicó Valdez.
En tanto que el técnico y educador Fernando Tejeda dijo que estas actividades con estudiantes buscan crear consciencia en torno a cuidar y velar por el uso responsable del preciado líquido.
“Nuestro objetivo es contribuir con el proceso de formación de estos jóvenes respecto a este valioso recurso, y lo hacemos a través de programas que tenemos abiertos como es el Vigilante del Agua, cuya misión consiste en promover el ahorro y uso eficiente del agua”, dijo.
Tras finalizar el recorrido por la planta de Valdesia, los estudiantes socializaron los temas abordados y destacaron en sus comentarios lo que más les llamó la atención sobre la potabilización del agua.
Valdesia constituye el sistema más importante de abastecimiento de agua potable para el Gran Santo Domingo, siendo el responsable del 38% del agua que produce la CAASD. Más de dos millones de personas reciben agua de este acueducto
El CENDOC
La CAASD, a través del Centro de Documentación y Gestión de Información (Cendoc-CAASD), desarrolla una serie de campañas con el objetivo de crear conciencia ciudadana sobre el agua y sus usos, entre las que se destaca “Todos somos vigilantes del agua”, con el lema: “pequeñas acciones generan grandes cambios”.
Las charlas se imparten a estudiantes de escuelas públicas y privadas con la finalidad de que valoren ese recurso y sean conscientes de la importancia que tiene para la vida humana y el medioambiente.
