Santo domingo. – Ante el aumento de casos de cólera en el país, la Corporación del Acueducto y Alcantarillado de Santo Domingo (CAASD), impartió a sus colaboradores una charla de concientización y prevención contra la enfermedad.
La conferencia, realizada en el salón Frida Aybar de Sanabia, estuvo a cargo del médico internista y gastroenterólogo del Ministerio de Salud Pública, Abraham Rivera Terrero, quien alertó a los asistentes de que la enfermedad se puede contraer con la ingesta de alimentos contaminados con la bacteria Vibrio cholerae.
Los principales síntomas del padecimiento, de acuerdo con el galeno, son diarrea intensa, deshidratación, vómitos repentinos, deshidratación y calambres musculares.
“La mayoría de los casos son sintomáticos de la cólera que provoca diarrea leve o moderada. Otros pacientes presentan vómitos, náuseas y calambres musculares”, explicó.
Rivera Terrero recomendó a los asistentes hervir el agua, lavar bien los alimentos, clorificar el agua, eliminar los focos de contaminación existentes para evitar la propagación de la enfermedad.
“Los suministros de agua contaminada son las fuentes frecuentes de brotes de cólera a gran escala. Las personas que viven en condiciones de hacinamiento sin higiene adecuada corren mayor riesgo”, expresó.
A la charla, organizada por el director del consultorio médico de la CAASD, doctor Richard H. Placencio, acudieron servidores de los departamentos de: Protocolo, Promoción Social, Asuntos Sociales y Comunicación.
Estadísticas del cólera en RD
La semana pasada, el Ministerio de Salud Pública registró 50 casos cólera e inició una campaña de vacunación para contrarrestar la propagación de la enfermedad
Como parte de las políticas públicas del organismo sanitario, se están inoculando en lugares donde se han detectado los casos, como: La Zurza, Villa Liberación, Capotillo, Villas Agrícolas y Boca Chica. De igual modo, se enviaron partidas de vacunas a las provincias fronterizas de Pedernales, Independencia, Elías Piña y Dajabón.
