Advierte que población debe usar el agua sólo en labores domésticas esenciales ante efectos de prolongada sequía
Santo Domingo.- La Corporación del Acueducto y Alcantarillado de Santo Domingo (CAASD) realizó 15,355 intervenciones en la red de alcantarillado sanitario, solucionó 116 averías, trabajó en nueve válvulas e hizo cuatro desobstrucciones en redes en la semana que recién finalizó, para eficientizar el servicio en el Gran Santo Domingo que se enfrenta a una larga sequía.
El director general de la CAASD, arquitecto Alejandro Montás, precisó que los trabajos fueron realizados en sectores como: San Carlos, Engombe, Las Praderas, Honduras, Herrera, Sabana Perdida, Villa Satélite, El Majagual, Los Mina, Los Ríos, Los Girasoles, Villa Juana, ensanche Espaillat, Invivienda, Villa Duarte, María Auxiliadora, Carmen Renata III, entre otros.
Además, señaló que esta semana estuvo muy activa la flotilla de 136 unidades de camiones cisterna que la Corporación tiene en operación ante los efectos de la prolongada sequía, llevando agua gratis a sectores del Gran Santo Domingo que así lo requieren.
Precisó que la producción actual de agua potable es de 316 millones de galones por día, con un déficit de 104 millones de galones diarios, en relación a los 420 millones de galones que produce en condiciones normales. La causa de esta situación es la disminución en los caudales de los ríos de que se suplen los sistemas de la CAASD por la falta de lluvias, lo que ha provocado la salida de equipos de bombeo en los acueductos de Haina Manoguayabo, Isa-Mana, Duey, Isabela y Barrera de Salinidad.
“De igual manera, el acueducto Valdesia-Santo Domingo, principal fuente de agua potable del Distrito Nacional y el municipio Santo Domingo Oeste, tiene una producción de un 85% debido a los niveles de las presas de Jigüey y Valdesia”, prosiguió.
“La presa de Jigüey tiene reducido su nivel en unos 20 metros, y se sitúa en 521.81 metros, de un nivel máximo de 541.50. La de Valdesia tiene un nivel de agua almacenada de 140.10 metros, de uno máximo de 150. El río Nizao está aportando a estos embalses un caudal de 2.23 metros cúbicos por segundo y la demanda es de unos 11 metros cúbicos”, detalló el funcionario.
“Aun así, este acueducto tiene la garantía de seguir operando sin ningún contratiempo, ya que tenemos suficiente agua almacenada en estos embalses para asegurar que mantenga su funcionamiento en forma normal”, aclaró.
Montás recalcó la reingeniería realizada en el programa de distribución del agua de Valdesia a fin de que la sequía afecte lo menos posible a los residentes en el Distrito Nacional y Santo Domingo Oeste. De este modo, han tenido que disminuir la frecuencia de distribución en algunas localidades para redistribuir el agua en forma equitativa para todos los sectores.
Sobre el acueducto Oriental, que abastece de agua al 50% municipio Santo Domingo Este, Montás informó que tiene reducida su producción a la mitad, ya que de seis bombas que pueden operar en su obra de toma, actualmente sólo operan tres por los bajos caudales del río Ozama. Unos 45 camiones cisterna se ocupan de llevar agua gratis a los sectores afectados por la situación.
“Recordamos que nuestro personal trabaja las 24 horas del día para que nuestros acueductos operen de forma continua, aun con su producción reducida por la falta de lluvias, pero que sigan trabajando. También, nuestros generadores eléctricos están totalmente abastecidos de combustibles para que si se presenta alguna interrupción del servicio eléctrico puedan seguir operando con nuestros generadores de emergencia”, agregó.
“La CAASD reitera el llamado a la población para que haga un uso racional del preciado líquido que le estamos sirviendo y que evite su dispendio en labores que no sean las domésticas esenciales, es decir, no lavar vehículos, no regar jardines y cosas semejantes”, puntualizó.
También dijo que “la CAASD alberga la esperanza de que en esta temporada ciclónica la sequía pueda ser revertida en el corto plazo y que se produzcan lluvias que vengan a nuestros ríos y así resolver la situación”.
