Santo Domingo.- Con el propósito de coordinar acciones conjuntas en contra de quienes “agredan y perforen redes de agua potable”, el director general de la Corporación del Acueducto y Alcantarillado de Santo Domingo (CAASD), arquitecto Alejandro Montás, se reunió con el titular de la Procuraduría Especializada de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales, Francisco Contreras Núñez, para aunar esfuerzos por preservar el líquido durante la sequía que afecta al país.
El arquitecto Montás advirtió a los dueños de fincas y lavadores de vehículos improvisados, así como otros ciudadanos que sean sorprendidos violentando las redes de agua potable que serán drásticos en sancionar tales acciones que atentan contra la seguridad del servicio del preciado líquido que necesita la población.
El funcionario informó que la situación actual es idéntica a la registrada antes de las lluvias de hace pocos días, debido a la sequía que afecta al país desde hace meses y que recientemente empezó a sentirse en esta parte del territorio nacional.
“La producción está en unos 369 millones de galones de agua potable por día, es decir, tenemos un déficit de unos 51 millones de galones diarios. En condiciones normales, nuestra producción es de unos 420 millones de galones por día”, reveló el director de la CAASD.
Señaló que los sistemas de la CAASD afectados con mayor severidad por los efectos de la sequía son Haina-Manoguayabo, Isa Mana, Duey e Isabela.
Montás indicó que este déficit se siente mayormente en sectores de la parte alta del Distrito Nacional y, fundamentalmente, en los municipios Los Alcarrizos y Pedro Brand, el distrito municipal Pantoja y el sector Herrera, en Santo Domingo Oeste.
No obstante, explicó que Valdesia opera en condiciones normales debido a que tiene como fuentes de captación dos presas y cuenta con agua almacenada. “Es decir, Valdesia tiene garantizada su operación durante todos los meses que faltan hasta que vuelvan las lluvias.
Para mitigar los efectos de la sequía hemos redistribuido el agua de Valdesia en los sectores que pudieran afectarse”, agregó el arquitecto Alejandro Montás.
Precisó que dicho sistema produce en la actualidad unos 140 millones de galones diarios de agua potable y opera en condiciones normales.
“En los sistemas del norte de la CAASD, cuyo 95% está conformado por pozos, las fuentes subterráneas son las últimas que se afectan cuando hay sequía, se está operando en condiciones normales. Lo mismo ocurre con los campos de pozos del este y el acueducto Barrera de Salinidad, porque el caudal del río Ozama sigue en condiciones normales”, detalló.
CAASD desmantela conexiones ilegales
Por su lado, la Dirección de Seguridad de la CAASD procedió al cierre y desmantelamiento de varias acometidas ilegales localizadas sobre la línea de 67 pulgadas del Acueducto Valdesia.
Precisó que se procedió a la desconexión para posterior sellado de dos acometidas de cuatro pulgadas y una de dos, en una empresa de comercialización de productos agrícolas próximo al cruce de Cambita, en la autopista 6 de Noviembre.
De igual modo, en el sector Doña Ana, también en la provincia San Cristóbal, se encontraron conexiones ilegales de tres pulgadas en la ventosa sobre la línea de 67 pulgadas de Valdesia, cometiendo estas personas el delito de hurto de agua.
Asimismo, destacó que cerraron y desmantelaron varias acometidas en la zona y en los próximos días se notificará a los dueños de éstas el costo de los trabajos de reparación. Este operativo forma parte del plan de contingencia puesto en marcha por la CAASD para combatir la fuerte sequía que afecta al país.
La institución reiteró el llamado a la población a hacer uso racional y responsable del líquido, válido en todo momento y que cobra mayor fuerza ahora, a fin de no desperdiciar el agua potable que la población tanto necesita.
